The Long Road to Ant-Man

The journey of bringing Ant-Man to the big screen began in April 2006 when Edgar Wright was hired to direct and co-write the script alongside Joe Cornish. This partnership worked on the script, and by April 2011, three script drafts had been completed. Test footage was even shot in July 2012 to visualize the film’s potential. However, pre-production was put on hold as Wright wrapped up his project, “The World’s End.” Casting started in December 2013, culminating in the selection of Paul Rudd to portray Scott Lang. Unexpectedly, in May 2014, Edgar Wright left the project due to creative differences. Nevertheless, he retained screenplay and story credits, sharing the writing spotlight with Joe Cornish. Following Wright’s departure, Peyton Reed stepped in as the new director, and Adam McKay joined the creative team to contribute to the script alongside Rudd. Filming took place from August to December 2014, spanning locations in San Francisco and Metro Atlanta.

The Big Premiere and Smaller Stakes

Ant-Man made its grand debut at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on June 29, 2015. It officially hit theaters in the United States on July 17, concluding Phase Two of the MCU. The film was a success, grossing over $519 million worldwide and earning favorable reviews from critics.
